Pugpalooza 2009

Hey y'all! Big Ern here using some lingo I picked up from our recent trip to Kentucky. We went to Shepherdsville to the big Kentuckiana Pug Rescue event, Pugpalooza! You can see the excitement in our faces (and tails) as we arrived at the big event!
We drove down there on Friday night with our good buddy, Lilo, and her pawrents, Jessica and Ryan. We spent the night with Grandpa (Daddy's dad) and got to the event with time to spare before the big Best Kisser contest. Of course our own Eli would be defending his title from March in the Pugs.

First we met up with Pugsley and his Mom, heather, human brother, Justin, and newly adopted pug sister, Lola! Pugsley was celebrating his 2nd birthday! And he was sporting a birthday muscle shirt that we thought would have matched his BPF Salinger's buttless chaps...
Eli did his best in the kissing contest, but alas, he finished 2nd. He's still the best kisser in Mommy's eyes though...
Eddie joined his human brother, Sam, at the table after doing horribly in the kissing contest. They just couldn't kiss in front of all those people...
Salinger's mom, Laura, sent along this delicious birthday cake for Pugsley (Mommy forgot to get a picture of it before it was cut). Salinger couldn't make it to the event, but we hear he had a good time meeting blogger buddy Stubby at the Indy pug meetup...
Here's Pugsley scarfing up his cake...
He was CRAZY about the cake!!!
We all enjoyed the cake very much! Thank you, Aunt Laura!!!
Pugsley was even nice enough to share his cake with other pugs...
Neecy licked that plate clean!!!
Jasmine ate her piece then helped clean up someone else's piece...
Pippin is such a messy eater ;-)
I did my best to keep the cake ON the plate...
Our buddy, Brutus, was there with his mom, Stacy, and foster sister Miley. Stacy was busy working the event and Miley was in the adoptable pug pen. But Brutus came by to say hello...
I decided not to compete in the pug races this time. That was just so much work at MITP. Other pugs enjoyed the run however...
We did our best to keep Mommy busy by getting tangled up...
Annie (Eli's foster mom) stopped by with her latest foster, Snickers. Lilo's mom enjoyed meeting him...
Lola got a new collar as an adoption present. Pugsley decided to model it for her...
If you look closely at the sling on the woman's arm, you'll see a little puggy face sticking out. That's Edward, who you may recall was a puppy mill rescue with badly malformed front legs. He has had his surgery and is out of the casts! Yay, Edward!!!
Heather bought a new outfit for Lola. It says "Fierce"...Lola did her best to live up to it...
Her name is Lola...she was a showgirl...
Ok, Mommy did a terrible job of getting pictures of our friends. The woman in the green shirt in this picture is Liss of Purs n' Snorts with Herbie and Ricky getting ready for the costume contest!
Bumble-pug...
We weren't quite sure what this pug was supposed to be, but he sure was colorful... Mickey and Minnie Pug (Minnie looks a little embarassed)...
Well, they do get a lot of tornados in Kentucky...
Brutus was getting worn out!
A mer-pug...
Another Minnie Pug...
Bernice decided to check out some of the adoptable pugs...
Pugsley and Justin played with Pugsley's new birthday cake stuffie...
Lilo and her Mommy, Jess. Notice Lilo's new collar/harness/leash set...isn't she pretty in pink?
Eddie and I checked out some of the other pugs...
Gus and Pippin crashed on Lilo's bag...
Eddie shared a loving moment with Daddy...
Pugs, pugs, everywhere pugs...
KPR's president, Amy, carried her bugg, Chip...
There's a crazy face! Must be from Neecy's planet ;-)
I think someone wants some belly rubs...
My beatiful Jasmine entered the curliest tail contest. Her tail curls so tightly that there is a dent in the fur on her butt! But she placed second...
There was all kinds of competition, even some of the adoptable pugs joined in...
But guess who won? That's right, the cinnabon lummox himself, our very own Eddie!
It turns out this is the only picture we got of Hank's mom, Sarah. Hank didn't make it, but his sister Molly did. And Sarah and Molly were so busy working for KPR!
There were so many pugs there and so much to look at!
We even won one of the raffle prizes! We liked this one because it had treats in it! And see that green tennis ball thingy in the bowl? Gus had that ball torn in half in just a couple of hours! Obviously our boy, Sam, was very excited ;-)
Lilo's daddy, Ryan, decided to borrow this elf hat from the Trash to Treasures booth and he put it on unsuspecting Neecy. All the humans around us ran over to take pictures.
Right after Ryan returned the hat, this lady ran over and bought it for her pug!
Playful pug...
Next was the popsicle licking contest which Lilo entered. She looked very excited about it...
Unfortunately, she wouldn't eat it until her mom took it off the stick...
But by then the pug on the left (on the lap of the man in the wheelchair) was on his second popsicle (which wasn't necessary because he had already won). That pug had to have major brain freeze!
Me and Jasmine...don't we look good together <3
Pippin decided to enter the best trick contest with his wave. It was for a good cause, after all. Too bad he didn't know what he was up against. This non-pug did all kinds of tricks including the treat on the nose trick! That's not very fair since pugs are incapable of that trick!
But even all the other pugs had better tricks...like dancing...
Poor Pip didn't have a chance. Even Lilo was ashamed to be seen with him...
We did get to meet this puppy. His humans JUST got him. He's only 9 weeks old and he didn't even have a name yet!
Lilo could tell there was something strange going on with this stroller...
OMD...what is that peeking over the edge???
It's Webster, the 8 week old pug puppy!!!
Neecy got to enjoy Mommy's lap for a bit...
The 2 little puppies got to meet and give each other puppy kisses!
That was a long but fun day...and it wasn't over yet! After Pugpalooza, we all went over to Aunt Pam's house for cousin Tabitha's 4th birthday party. We'll post pictures of that another time...we posted way too many today as it is...
Well, that's all for now. I hope you enjoyed the pictures. The next KPR event will be in Indiana in August...The 500 Festival of Pugs!
Pug hugs and kisses!
