Green Saturday

Hey everyone! Big Ern here! Today is a green day because Mommy finally got motivated enough to work on the gardens. She usually starts way before now, but there has been soooooo much going on that she hasn't had a chance.First she went shopping for some new gardening gloves and plants. She was anxious to plant the herb garden, but she was afraid the stores would be out of her favorite herbs. But she was in luck! They had just what she wanted.

Then we went outside with her to get started. Ugh! This doesn't look like a fun job! All that tall stuff is thistle. It can be very prickly if it touches your skin. Boy did Mommy let that get out of control! It was so bad that it made Gus spin in circles!Well, fortunately, the ground is damp from all the rain we've had the past week and the thistle came up pretty easily. Then we got busy planting. Ok, Mommy got busy planting, we just walked around and watched her...to make sure she was doing it right ;-)

Woo hoo! All done with the herb garden! We did such a good job!Bernice enjoyed smelling the fresh herbs...mmmm...rosemary... Now for a real quick tour of the herbs...this is sage...Mommy planted it several years ago and it always comes back. Actually, it never really goes away. Some of it usually stays green even through the winter! It smells good and has pretty little purple flowers. It goes good with pork and chicken... Next is the herb that Mommy absolutely cannot live without! It's basil. She likes the big leafy kind and she uses it in Italian dishes, mostly sauces. She got 2 kinds of rosemary. She says it goes good with oven roasted potatoes. This first one is supposed to be a tallish plant...This other one is supposed to be more of a ground cover...This is purple basil. Mommy's not really sure what she'll use it for, but she got it for looks...Here we have lavender. Mommy has never used it in cooking, but she says she likes the smell of it. It's supposed to be a relaxing smell...And we can't forget the cilantro. Mommy makes fresh salsa for Daddy (quite possibly his favorite food ever) and cilantro really adds something to it. It's also good in grill marinades, especially with garlic and lime juice (and some tequila)...

This is mint...but it's not regular mint...it's chocolate mint! Mommy really doesn't know what to do with this, but she and Daddy will pick some and just sniff it! She said it smells just like Frango Mints, whatever the heck those are...WE'RE not allowed to have chocolate, so we wouldn't know...Great, the herbs are planted, now what are you going to cook, Mommy???
Uh oh...Gus saw a bird...
Now how does he think he's going to catch that bird???
Eddie enjoyed some rolling around in the grass and clover...
Are you freaking kidding me??? That's what we have to do next??? Sam moved all the wood from around the veggie garden and then put it all back inside the garden so he could mow. It really shouldn't be as bad as it looks...the weeding part shouldn't take too long and Daddy promised to help Mommy...
And the Pug Posse is here to help!!! (*cue music*)
Uh oh...looks like we might not get the garden done today...there are some ugly clouds forming overhead...
Stay tuned...we'll let you know how the garden went...
Pug hugs and kisses!

That looks like a lovely herb garden. Auntie has herbs too, but we don't know what kind. Oh well.

LOL - such fun to tour your garden and see all the professional puggy gardeners hard at work helping mama. Did the storm give your new plants a nice drink of water? Gus is so cute, reminds me so much of my clown, Java Cheesy.
many hugs...
