Monday Eddie Update

Hello friends! Ernie here with the much anticipated update on our foster buddy, Eddie. As Mommy told you on Friday, Eddie had his first vet appointment on Saturday morning. Well, everything was good except for some worms. He has hookworms and whipworms. They're the same little nasty buggers that Eli had when he was rescued. And Bernice had whipworms when we were first fostered. Very easy to treat! The doctor told Mommy and Daddy that, judging by Eddie's shiny white teeth, Eddie is no more than a year old! Mommy thought he was still a puppy. He has all his adult teeth, but they are so clean and white. And he acts like a puppy. Then Mommy made THE appointment for poor Eddie...the dreaded "fixing". He gets to go in on Friday for the "snip, snip". One of the puppy behaviors that Eddie exhibits is stealing things and running around like crazy. Here he is running with one of Daddy's socks and I am chasing him trying to recover it for Daddy. I should add that this was a CLEAN sock! What's up with that? Everypug knows that socks are no good unless they smell like our humans' feet!
Here are Eli and Pippin trying to figure out what that awful smell is that keeps coming out of Eddie's behind...
Aha! Caught in the act...Grand Theft Sock!
As you can see, Eddie has gained enough weight so far that his ribs no longer protrude...
He is really quite a happy little bloke!
Yesterday, Mommy took Eli and Eddie to Petco for their KPR service. There they met up with Sophie and her Mommy, Kelly. Although they did not collect many donations, they did meet several people who expressed interest in adopting our fellow pugs who are homeless. They all took some information and said they would look up the KPR website. Here is Sophie posing with her Mommy...
Eddie, as usual, was too excited to stand still for Mommy to take a good picture of him, but Eli was cooperative enough...
We are quite proud of the progress that young Edward is making. And we are sure that he will find a good, loving forever home in no time!
Pug hugs and kisses!

Shark Friday

Argghhh! Mommy has decided to hijack our blog again today and every Friday and feature a different animal OTHER THAN PUGS!!!!! The nerve of that woman...

Hi everyone! I had so much fun with Llama Friday last week that I decided to feature a different animal each Friday. Today is the shark in memory of the Bonnethead Sharks that were lost at the Indy Zoo this past week...http://www.indyzoo.com/pdf/BonnetheadSharks.pdf
They are kind of like hammerheads, but a lot smaller and the face is more rounded, but they still have the funky eyes that protrude on each side. I had a hard time getting pictures of them because it is so dark in the area where they have been kept and the flash kept reflecting off the glass... This picture is blurry, but I think it's still pretty cool because of the shadow. You can get a better idea of the head shape in this one...
The Indy Zoo also has a shark petting tank. These are Dog Sharks and they are non-aggressive, so you can actually reach in and touch them!
They are small sharks and don't look anything like dogs!
They had this really strange behavior of sticking their noses up out of the water. It was like they were trying to take a look around above water...
Here's Sam posing in front of the tank...
And here's Denny petting a shark...
There are a lot of these little guys in the tank...
I still wouldn't want to go swimming with them!!!
Eddie goes to the vet for the first time tomorrow. I'm going to have to take pictures with me because the vet will not believe that he is the same dog who was skin and bones just a week ago! He is looking so good and he is so happy! And he is consistently sitting on command (sorry Kelly)!!! I'm sure Ernie will be posting tomorrow or Sunday to let you all know how Eddie does!
Have a great weekend!!!
Pug hugs and kisses!

This is Thursday

Super fantastic Thursday, everyone! Big Ern here to say hello from the Pug Posse! I know you're all wondering how Eddie is doing. Mommy really appreciates all the supportive comments our buddies have left. And we welcome any newcomers to our blog, like our new friend Kelley who is an artist and did the most pawsome pug painting. Everyone check it out here!

Anyway, back to Eddie. He is doing so great! He is fattening up very nicely! Mommy would take more pictures of him, but he is so fast that they mostly end up like this...Jasmine and Bernice have not been getting along at all. They had some issues with each other before, but it has been constant ever since Eddie came to live with us. They usually have to be separated. It usually starts with Jasmine catching sight of Bernice and growling at her. And Bernice, God love her, is so stupid that she doesn't know to NOT get up in Jasmine's face. Then it becomes a stare-down and usually builds into a fight. Mommy and Daddy are getting so frustrated with it. Mommy has looked up some information on the internet about working with this kind of behavior, so we'll let you know how that works out. Fortunately, the 2 girls were getting along outside so Mommy could get this picture... I really don't know why those silly girls don't lighten up. Look how laid back me and the Pipster are...Here is a picture of my buddy, Eli, with Eddie in the background. Eli is pretty cool. The 2 of us love to get as close as possible to each other and to Mommy when she gets in bed. I think we are the best snugglers (other than our good friend, Eduardo, that is)! Here comes Eddie. His head still looks too big for that skinny body, but it is getting a little better. Mommy is convinced that he is still mostly puppy. His face is very dark without a single bit of gray hair and he plays just like a puppy does. He gets to go to the vet for the first time on Saturday, so hopefully they'll be able to estimate how old he is...Oh, Sophie! Here's handsome Pippin! He's working on writing a poem for you, but words are not his strong point, so please be patient while he thinks it out! In the meantime, look how handsome he is here... Not only is Pippin handsome, but he is also a soccer star! Look out David Beckham!!! I believe I mentioned the other day that Eddie has already learned to sit on command. Well, of course there is a caveat...it has to be for a treat reward. Here he is receiving his treat today after sitting so nicely when Mommy asked him to... That's about all I have for today. I do want to give a shoutout to our good friend Coco for sharing his Mommy's llama pictures today! Our Mommy really enjoyed them as well as the adorable pix of Coco sporting his striped shirt!

Take care everypuggy!

Working with the Snuggle Puggle

Whew...we have a new task today...teaching Eddie how to be a pug. I thought this job was supposed to be about snuggling! All right, we'll work on Eddie...he needs a LOT of work ;-)

Here I am, Big Ern, trying to show Eddie how to be happy and have fun... Yo, Eddie...over here Man! How can we teach you if you're not going to pay attention???While taking the pictures, we got another orb that may be Sidney trying to help us out...look almost in the center, but a little to the right... Ok, the big task ahead of us is getting this pug fattened up. Here is how we eat...follow our lead...Wait, Jasmine, why are you hiding? Or are you guarding the fridge until Mommy gets ready to make dinner?Pippin is obviously a pro at eating...here he is showing his full face in the bowl technique...he's trying to work up the nerve to ask Sophie to be his girlfriend, now that the truth has come out about Salinger...Eli is telling Eddie about how he was able to go from rib-showing-skinny to full, handsome pug...Next lesson...as pugs, it is our solemn duty to get on top of the couch and keep watch for any treats that may fall on the floor. We can see the entire room from this vantage point...Look everyone...I think he's getting the hang of it!The girls are still marvelling at how Eddie actually sat on command for a treat this evening! Mommy was so excited! She thinks that's a new record in this house...wait a minute...what's that supposed to mean? I was very quick to pick up on the "sit" command... Eli is supervising as Eddie plays with a toy...it's actually one of Mommy's stuffed pugs, but he seems to enjoy it so much so she lets him play with it... Eddie is such a good learner that it made our jobs pretty easy today! Now to get back to our regularly scheduled snuggling... Pug hugs and kisses!

Eddie: Day 3

How is everyone on this lovely Monday? I, Big Ern, am happy because my Mommy just gave me some extra lovings :-) I'm sure you are all curious about how things are going with our new boarder, Eddie. Well, he is quite a handful for Mommy and Daddy. He keeps following around the girls, Jasmine and Bernice, but mostly Bernice. He sniffs them and then humps them. Mommy and Daddy say that he will calm down with this behavior once he is "fixed". I can truly empathize with him...I was once taken to see the doctor to be "fixed" and I came out with less of me than when I went in. I don't understand what was broken about that part of my anatomy, but it appears that all of the male pugs in this house must suffer the same fate.

I also don't know how such a skinny and pathetic looking thing can think that he is so hot with the ladies. I, the Moose, am in perfect shape, quite the muscular pug. I have gained Jasmine's affections by being quiet and restrained. She respects that much more than the aggressive humping!

Can you see how ridiculous this is? This boy needs to eat, yet he ignores the bowl of food right next to him and instead keeps a close eye on Bernice's back side!

The dog finally did calm down after a while. He seems to prefer lying on the floor as opposed to the big soft bed. How barbaric! He is quite a project...our Eliza Doolittle! Let's see..."The pugs on the rug are pictured on the mug..."

Yes, we are speaking about you, Edward...

At least his bathroom skills have improved. Mommy and Daddy are making sure to send him out frequently to make sure he knows that THAT is where he is supposed to relieve himself. It appears to be helping...

His personality has already improved. When he first arrived in our home, he was afraid to come back inside after being let out. He even cowered as if he was used to being struck if he tried to get inside. But now he runs outside and explores the yard happily and just as happily hops back in through the door!

Mommy is trying very hard to teach him some basic skills, such as "down", "sit", and "stay", but he is still learning his name, so it may be a slow process. We will, of course, keep you all updated as his training and conditioning improve...he surely can't get any worse!

As always, pug hugs and kisses,

Ernie and the Pug Posse
