Boldly going where no pug has gone before

Ok, so here is the scoop...Mama lost her job in November and decided to go full steam with the dog treat bakery idea! She partnered up with Mia's mom and Yoda, Brutus, and Ellie's mom and they started Pugs In The Kitchen! They started it a couple of years ago as a fundraiser for the KPR events. So now it is an official business! They don't have a shop, but they take orders on the website and ship them out fresh (or personally deliver in Indianapolis). Mama bakes all treats fresh in her kitchen with human grade ingredients and vacuum seals treats before shipping them. Let me tell you, they are the most awesome, lip-smacking dog treats we have ever had!!! We get to taste test all treats!

But treats aren't all that they sell! Mama also makes fuzzy, squeaky stuffies! They last longer than store bought stuffies, which is great since Eddie is so rough with stuffies! And Aunt Jess makes charms which can be attached to collars or they can be attached to anything your humans want to attach them to, like necklaces, backpacks, whatever they want!

Before the website was even open for business, the mamas made their big debut at a local Star Trek convention called Star Base Indy! Mama made fuzzy stuffies that they referred to as "Tribbles" and she made some others that resembled the Star Trek insignia. They made the tribbles look like they were popping out of a suitcase :-)

There were lots of cool vendors there. Right across from the PITK booth was a soap maker called Geeky Clean! They had some really neat Star Wars themed soaps.

Mama made some Star Trek shaped treats using cookie cutters that Daddy made! They were the bacon treats and they were quite popular!

Little Mia got a little tired after all the excitement!

There were a couple of bands there. The table on the left is for Five Year Mission and the one on the right is for Il Troubadore Klingon Music Project.

The boy (the one wearing the red shirt) had a good time too.

Of course he got sucked in by the all powerful TV!

He got to meet John Billingsly who played Dr. Phlox in Enterprise!

He also got to meet Tony Todd who played Worf's brother (a Klingon) in The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine. But Aunt Jess was mostly excited that he was Candy Man! She's not really into Star Trek, but she loves horror!

There were all different kinds of costumes there!

Dr. Who was a very popular character there!

The Geeky Clean girls even had a Tardis soap (in the center of the table)!

I didn't get to go, but Romeo got to enjoy the day on Saturday and Rosie and Pippin spent Sunday there. Mama said I couldn't go because I would have barked at everyone in costume. Well, duh!

Anyway, that happened last month and the website opened for business a few days later. I think everyone should go order some treats because they are super yummy! www.pugsinthekitchen.com

Hiatus is over!

Hello friends! We have been away far too long! We hope you didn't forget about us! It's going to take us a while to catch up, but we want to make sure you remember what we look like. This is me, Ernie.

The Adventure, Part 1 - The Trip

Hi everyone! Big Ern here! You will not believe the weekend I had! It started on Friday with Mama running around getting things packed and getting me all ready to go for a long ride. Check out the awesome new sweater and collar she bought for me!

Then Aunt Jess showed up at our house when she was done with work. We loaded our stuff in her car and drove to her house where she packed up Princess Mia. Then we drove all the way to Columbus, OH. We stopped at a restaurant called the Claddagh. It's an Irish pub that allows dogs on the patio. We sat right outside the window from where an Irish band was playing!

Mama and Aunt Jess thought this king statue was funny so they insisted on posing in front of it with us.

After dinner we drove to the hotel where we spent the night. In the morning I helped Mama pack and was ready to go!

Mia was also excited to find out where we were going!

Can we please go already?

Not far from the hotel was this restaurant. We thought it sounded like a neat place. We guessed it was a restaurant started by military veterans!

One more stop before leaving Columbus...Dunkin' Donuts! We were surprised that this one included a Baskin Robbins ice cream shop, but it was a little too early for ice cream.

It's not chocolate, but it sounded interesting...French Toast ice cream!

We drove all day on Saturday through Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York. When we got to Pennsylvania, the corn fields disappeared and were replaced by vineyards! Lots and lots of vineyards!

We had to stop for a potty break and saw this horrible thing. Can you see the deer horns on the back of that truck? Someone killed Bambi!!!!! The horror!!!

Well, we finally got to our destination...Webster, NY. We went to the home of Aunt Punchy! We spent the night there and then on Sunday we all got dressed up for a pawty! I had my necktie.

Mia had her dress that Aunt Nancy sent her.

For Lilo

We wanted to do something to honor the memory of our god friend Lilo who went to the Bridge last week. She was an honorary member of the Posse and we miss her terribly, so we made Mama come up with a treat for the bakery, Pugs In The Kitchen. It is made with peanut butter, oatmeal, carob chips, and some other stuff. We are calling it the Tales of the Great Rockeater cookie! And yes, we all approve :-)

It is with great sadness...

Tonight the world is a little less bright. Honorary Posse member, Lilo, has gone to the Bridge. We are so sad that she is gone, but we have comfort in the fact that she is now breathing freely, running and playing with such a wonderful group of beloved pugs that were already there. Run free, little Lilo, we love you and we miss you, but we will never forget you <3 <3 <3

Report to the Mother Ship

Agent Timmy's mission log. Earth date: 06-10-2011.

It has been almost a year since my colleague and I arrived on Earth. We have been accepted into our home as planned. The plan started with a snag however, when the family chose to take only Agent Bella. I was able to convince the temporary housing authority that I needed to be stationed with Bella and the mission has been running smoothly ever since.

We were able to pick up on Agent Bernice's work that was interrupted due to her sudden recall to the Mother Ship. Bernice did an excellent job paving the way for our arrival. The humans clearly worship us and will not be difficult to conquer when the time comes. I have developed a fondness for this human family as they have welcomed me into their home and provide me with everything that I require. The female human even makes special food for us, she calls them "treats". I must say I have never tasted anything quite like it.

As you can see we have become quite comfortable in our new surroundings.
There are others like us in the home. Only one I recognized from the home world. He is called Ernie and he arrived with Bernice. He has become very protective of the humans, especially the female. He is also very protective of the others like us.
As for the others, you can see that this one that they call "Eddie" is without a doubt from our home world. He does not remember arriving here and believes that he is of this world. I will continue to analyze his brain functions to determine what happened.
There is one among us who is not from our world, yet she is clearly not from Earth. They call her "Rosie". She is a long-haired cyclopsian creature. She is very receptive to the humans, but she can be a little mean to us Pugosians. She will require continued monitoring to make sure her kind is not planning a takeover of their own.
We will continue to interact with others like us. There are monthly gatherings called "meetups" that we will attend. We have been able to contact others in the meetups and have confirmed that the mission is on schedule.
I will attempt to gain access to the humans' internet communicating device again soon to report on any new findings.

Hello friends! Ernie here to tell you about our beautiful Sunday walk downtown! Mama decided we need to start walking to get ready for Mutt Strut, the annual benefit for the Indianapolis Humane Society where people get to walk with their dogs around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway! So since Sunday was such a nice day here, Eddie and I got to go with Mama, Dad, Sam, and Aunt Jess and Lilo downtown to the canals to strut our awesome pug stuff! Here's Lilo with her mama...We took some food along to snack on...or should I say, the humans took some food to snack on! Lilo and I let Aunt Jess know that we were hungry too.

Please give me some of that chicken! I know you want to share! (Notice my handsome new Puppia harness!)

The canal is pretty cool. It was originally built in the 1800's, intended to be a major source of transportation through Indiana, but the project ran out of money and only 8 miles of the canal were completed! Indy has been rebuilding the canal as an attraction and the housing along the canal is very much in demand. One of the most awesome sites along the canal is the USS Indianapolis memorial. You may remember the story of the Indianapolis from the movie Jaws. The ship was sunk during World War II after delivering the atomic bomb to Japan and the sailors that survived the sinking were faced with sharks.

In the summer they have gondola rides in the canal!

We saw these fish in the water, but Mama wouldn't let us get too close!

This is another memorial along the canal. It is the Medal of Honor Memorial and it is located right across the water from the Indiana State Museum.

Mom got a new camera!!!

Greetings from the Posse! It is I, Ernie, to share some good news with you: our dear mother got herself a new camera! Now, this is not just some little point-and-shoot thing-a-ma-jig. This is a Nikon digital camera that has interchangeable lenses! A long time ago, mom was very into photography. She even took pictures for her high school yearbook! She has had real Nikon cameras before, but it has been a long time since she has used one. So get ready for some photographic mayhem over the next few posts as mom practices her rusty photo skills! Today are some of her favorite pics that she has taken of us so far. Enjoy! Can you believe that this little fuzz-face is the same hairless chupacabra mom brought home last summer? Rosie now has so much hair that she needs to go get a haircut!

Pugless Sunday at the Pumpkin Patch

Hi everyone!!! We had a pugless adventure today. We met Yoda and Brutus' parents, Cindy and Mike at a place on the east side of Indy called Edward's Drive-in. Adam Richman from Man vs. Food went there when he was in town. They are famous for their pork tenderloin sandwich. Then Lilo's mama Jessica joined us. We had a nice but very filling lunch!

The pugs would have loved helping us eat all that food! After lunch we drove a short distance to Waterman's Farm to pick our own pumpkins! Don't the boys look excited?

It was like a mini fair with a petting zoo, small rides for the kids, and food!

This was one of the food vendors. I loved their logo :-D

We got some cider slushies and went to check out the pumpkin eating dinosaur, Tyrrany, while we waited for Apollo's parents, Jami and Sean, to meet us.

Cindy looks really scared! LOL :-D

Once Jami and Sean got there, we took a stroll through the cornfield maze.

Pugtoberfest 2010

Hello everyone!!! I have so much blog catching up to do, but I wanted to get these pictures posted. Last Saturday was Kentuckiana Pug Rescue's final event of the year, Pugtoberfest! It was held in Sheperdsville, KY (just south of Louisville). It was a very busy day and we only took 5 pugs with us. I didn't get pictures of everything because I was working most of the day (first at the pug bakery table, then at the front entrance table), but I did make sure to get pictures of the costume contest competitors!

Here's Bella making her big KPR debut! She was helping set up the Pugs in the Kitchen table! And here is our awesome sign (idea by me, drawing by Yoda & Brutus' mom):

This is Peyton. He is baby Stewie's big brother and a KPR rescue! (Stewie is one of Sassy's puppies, for those of you who got to watch the Puppy Cam...also Kiki's brother!)

Here is Denny manning the Puggo (Pug Bingo) table. It was only the 2nd time KPR has had Puggo at an event, but it seems to be quite popular! And Denny is pretty good at leading the game :-)

This was the first part of the Wizard of Oz group entry. Amy, KPR's president, entered her, her moms and her brother's pugs and buggs. Amy's mom made the costumes and they were incredible! The first 3 were Glinda the good witch, the Scarecrow, and Dorothy.

Then came the Wicked Witch and the flying monkeys. The buggs were perfect as the flying monkeys!!!

This is Penelope and Petunia! They were rescued by KPR with really bad mange. It was so bad that neither one had much hair at all. They were adopted last summer and are absolutely beautiful!!!

Vikki and the Pug Posse

New beginning

Hello dear friends! I am so sorry for our absence. It has been a really difficult year so far. As most of you know by now, we lost our beloved Jasmine in June and sweet Bernice in July. I am still heartbroken over the losses of my precious girls, but there's nothing we can do to bring them back, so we have to just move on. That being said, there have been a lot of changes in the Posse since January. You may recall that we added Romeo in January. He is such a sweet fuzzy pug. He reminds me of a lop-eared bunny but with short ears and a curly tail! He is mostly blind and only has 3 teeth, but he eats just fine and he is a very happy pug. Here is the Romey boy...

Eli is still the best kisser! I have been thinking of retiring him from the contest and letting someone else win for a change, but we may have one more go at Pugtoberfest next month.

Not long after Romeo came to live with us, we agreed to take in Pudge and Pugsley, a bonded pair. They are brothers (from the same litter) and had to be given up due to a child's allergy in the house. The night Jasmine crossed to the Bridge, Denny looked at me and said "They're not going anywhere!" And that is fine because they fit in just fine. Pugsley is a bit of a loner, but he loves human attention and he is the softest pug I have ever known! We call him the Velveteen Pug which has evolved into Vel-Vito! This is Pugsley enjoying the lap of Yoda and Brutus' mom, Cindy.And this is Pudge. We call him Bubba Pudge :-)

So then I got an e-mail a couple of months ago about pugs needing foster homes. There was a "bonded" pair in a shelter, both girls. Since I was so mising my girls, I thought taking them in might help ease some pain. Well, then we found out that one of them was retrieved by the owner, but the other still needed a home. Ok, that's fine, I'll take her. She was at Indianapolis Animal Care and Control. Ugh, that place is awful. I know it is necessary, but it was so horribly depressing. Anyway, our contact at IACC took me back to see her. I knew that she was 10 years old and a pug mix (we still haven't figured out the other part of her). And she has a few minor medical conditions, like she is missing one eye and the back half of her had no hair! When I finally got to meet her, I was asked "So do you still want to take her?" She was a hot mess, but I couldn't say no. There was no way anyone would have adopted her and she would have been euthanized! So she is now being fostered in our house and she has blossomed! She has put on some weight and her hair is growing back! And she has the craziest little personality! She loves to bark at me to get my attention and she loves giving kisses. Oh, and her name is Rosie.

And then there is Gus. He is still caught in the eternal struggle with his tail...always chasing it, but never able to get it...
So you might think that the insanity stops there, but you would be wrong. About 3 weeks ago I fell for another "Need foster homes" e-mail. Another pug in the shelter, IACC again. An older black male. He was picked up as a stray and estimated to be 14 years old. I don't think he's that old, but I would say he's at least 10. His eyes are a mess, so he is mostly blind, and he doesn't hear very well. We tried a few names out on him before settling for Tucker. He is such a sweetheart. His chances of being adopted are pretty low since he is old and blind, so he will probably be staying with us for good. But who could resist this face? Ernie, Pippin, and Eddie are still as handsome as can be and enjoying meeting the new pugs...
But the best part is that a little over a week ago I was told about a black female pug that I might be interested in. We went to meet her at her foster home on Labor Day and I brought her home last Friday. She had obviously recently (very recently by the look of it) had puppies and was discarded on the side of the road with a fawn male. She looks like she is a puppy herself! Of course she can't tell us what happened, but our theory is that maybe her puppies were "defective", so she was considered not good for breeding and was tossed out. She is about Bernice's size and she is so, so sweet! We have named her Isabella and I already love her! She already follows me around, whines when she can't see me, and gives me sweet little kisses :-) Isn't she beautiful?

Whipped Cream Toast to Penny

Hello friends! I'm sure by now most of you know of the passing of our dear pug blogger friend, Penny the beefy, sexy pug. She went to the Rainbow Bridge last Friday and although we've never met her nose to nose, we will miss her terribly.

As a tribute to sweet Penny (who loved whipped cream so very much), Lilo and her parents came over to our house on Saturday and we had a whipped cream toast. I will let the pictures speak for themselves, but I would like to point out the shiny orb in the third picture. I like to think that maybe Penny herself was joining us for some whippy cream :-)

Hey everyone! Guess who's finally back! Tis me, Big Ern and the Posse! We hope we still have some followers! We know it's been a long time, but Mama has been super busy...

Anyway, we want to introduce the new fluffy pug, Romeo. He's not really that new, he's been with us since January, but since we haven't blogged in a while, he's new to the blog world!

Romeo was rescued from what we think is a potential puppy mill. Very shady situation, but he was obviously kept for breeding purposes. He's supposedly 7 years old and he was not fixed (but he is now!), he was kept outside ALL THE TIME so he has a really thick fluffy coat that Mama has been working on brushing out (she has brushed about 4 whole pugs out of his coat and he's still the fluffiest pug ever!), and he's mostly blind. Oh, and his mouth was badly infected when he was rescued, so the vet removed 6 teeth from his mouth (when she was "fixing" him) which left 3 teeth. Yes, he only had 9 teeth when he was rescued! And his chin is very crooked which makes Mama think his jaw was broken at some point. Can you believe that? Who would treat a pug that way? Especially one that looks like a bunny but without the long ears!

Despite all of his disabilities, he has done really well in the Posse's crib. He learned his way around by following us, especially in the backyard. It's hard to even tell that he can't see!

He's just a foster, but we don't think he's going anywhere ;-) Mama adores him and he adores Mama! And it would probably be difficult finding another home for him because of his disabilities. KPR is full of adoptable pugs who are perfectly healthy who are looking for homes :-(

So, I guess we have a new pug brother. I have to admit, he is pretty cute. Mama calls him "stinking cute"...yes, we think he's stinky too! BOL :-D

We're going to try to make Mama blog for us more often now that things are FINALLY starting to slow down slightly at her work. She is still working way too much which cuts into our time snuggling with her :-b And we have to tell you about the other 2 fosters staying with us! (The suspense is killing you now, isn't it?)

Paw it forward!!!

Hey everyone! Big Ern here! I know I said we were going to get better at blogging, but Mama hasn't been very cooperative about that. She is super busy at work and has been working extra hours. By the time she gets home she's too tired to get on the computer. And then the stupid computer died. Daddy had someone look at it and he was told that the hard drive was fried. Well, that was a good excuse for Mama to get an early Christmas present...a netbook! So now we can blog anywhere Mama goes! Right now we're snuggled up with her in bed :-)

I should probably mention that Daddy is doing fine. I didn't get to finish telling you about his gallbladder problems. He was all ready to have it taken out...and I mean he was actually at the hospital with the IV in and everything...when they cancelled the surgery because his blood sugar was too high. He hasn't rescheduled it because he's feeling better and he wants to find a different surgeon who won't cancel the surgery 10 minutes before it is supposed to start.

Ok, enough of that, we got a big surprise in the mail today! Sequoia and Petunia (and their mama) sent us a gift for Paw It Forward! It was so awesome! Look at these awesome mini stockings! Each one has a picture of one of us.

And there was this adorable card with cute puggies on it!

We're back Part 2

Hey everyone! Big Ern here again to continue to fill you in on our MIA time. So where were we...oh, yes, the wedding on September 19th. Well, Daddy started feeling pretty icky after that. That Monday night he was complaining of pain in his middle section. He asked Mama what it felt like when she had gallbladder problems. It sounded similar, so he stayed home from work the next day and called the doctor. He went in and they did a bunch of tests which all came back normal. Then Wednesday (9/23) was Daddy's birthday (even though he says he's not having any more birthdays). Poor Daddy was feeling so bad on his birthday that Mama couldn't even make him his favorite dinner or even a cake! On Thursday Daddy went back to the hospital for an ultrasound. That showed "sludge" in his gallbladder, but no stones. So they wanted him to see a surgeon to talk about having his gallbladder out since they couldn't find anything else wrong. More about Daddy's problems in the next post since we're going in chronological order. Now on to the fun stuff!

Daddy was starting to feel a little better by the weekend, although not great. But he wanted to have a good weekend anyway. There was a rescue event in the Petco parking lot in Speedway on Saturday. I didn't get to go, but Jasmine, Eli and Gus did. The event was called "Rally to Rescue" and featured a bunch of different rescues besides KPR. It was a pretty nice day and hopefully it helped a lot of doggies get new homes! Here are some pictures of the cute doggies that were representing...

Then we had a birthday party for Daddy! Daddy's sister and dad (and spouses) and some friends including Lilo and her parents came to celebrate!

I have to say it was difficult picking pictures out from this celebration. You see, our 4 year old friend Gigi was allowed to use Mama's camera while our cousin Tabitha was using her mama's camera. There were many, many, many, MANY pictures taken and most of them are just really random pictures of things around the house like the floor and the ceiling fans and pug butts and even some pug poo outside! But there were a few good ones, like this one of Eddie with a party hat :-)

We're Back!!!

Hey everyone! Big Ern here! I hope you all remember us! We haven't been able to blog for a while because there has been sooooo much going on and Mama has been so busy! We had a Halloween party last weekend and right after that, Mama got the flu and we had to take care of her. Now that most of our busy stuff is past and Mama is feeling better, we're going to get back into the blog. We apologize for not being able to keep up with anyone else's blog all this time too. I promise we will be working really hard to catch up!
Hopefully over the next few days we'll cover what has been keeping us so busy. We don't want to put too much in one blog and bore everyone ;-) But first here are some pictures of us because we know everyone wants to see us more than anything else!!! Here's Pippin, the Pugfather...

Ok, it was the middle of September when we last posted anything. The weekend after that, Grandpa got married! You might remember Mama's sad story last November about Grandma getting sick. It has been almost 2 years since she left us. Unfortunately, most of the Posse never got to meet her. Well, Grandpa had been pretty sad and lonely since then until he met Dee this past spring. They fell in love and decided to get married. So September 19 was the big day. We didn't get to go, but Mama took lots of pictures for us to see. (We stayed home and Lilo's parents came to stay the night with us!) Here is our human brother Sam posing with his little cousins, Max and Tabitha...

In the meantime, here are some pictures from the event we worked this past Sunday for Kentuckiana Pug Rescue. Denny and Sam and I took Eli, Eddie, and Bernice to represent KPR. We talked to a lot of people and met lots of different kinds of dogs. Hopefully some of those people who took KPR info will come through and either adopt or foster. We have way too many pugs that need to find their furever homes!

I remember...

I remember that day.
An ordinary Tuesday in September eight years ago.
A day that began the same as any other day.
A beautiful clear day in Indiana.

I remember going to work.
The same routine as any other day,
The pleasantries exchanged with coworkers.
Then everything changed.

I remember the call.
My husband heard that a plane hit the World Trade Center in New York.
Was this a sick joke? Was it a small plane with engine trouble?
This can't be real.

I remember turning on the radio
In time to hear that a second plane hit the other tower.
It wasn't a joke, it wasn't a small plane.
And it wasn't a coincidence.

I remember the silence.
Everyone in the office listening for news, tearful, anxious.
Why was this happening? Who would do this?
Then the towers fell.

I remember the third plane.
It hit the Pentagon. This is a deliberate attack.
All air traffic was stopped. There was another plane unaccounted for.
Little did we know.

I remember the announcement:
The office was closing. Go home and be with your loved ones.
No one could work any more that day.
We left in tears.

I remember the drive home.
Driving through tears. The eerie silence on a clear day.
Listening to the news that the fourth plane crashed in a field.
This was real.

I remember the images.
The non-stop coverage on TV. Seeing the planes hit the buildings.
Seeing the faces of the wounded in New York, zombie-like, covered in ash.
Helpless, fearful, lost.

I remember the emotions.
We were horrified, sickened, afraid, but we couldn't look away.
We watched, we cried, we heard the accounts of the day.
So many people died.

I remember the heroes.
The firemen and policemen who ran into the buildings when everyone else was running out.
The passengers of flight 93 who fought back and sacrificed their lives so no one else would die.
The words "Let's roll".

I remember the pride.
The people of this country and of the world pulling together, looking for survivors, for hope.
The patriotism, the tears during the national anthem. They did not defeat us.
We will survive.

I remember that day.
That clear blue September day that started like any other day,
But ended with the world forever changed. I remember that day...
And I will never forget.

Pug Posse Insanity

Hi everyone! Big Ern here. You're not going to believe the weekend we had!Eddie still can't believe it...

Pippin was stunned...

On Saturday everything started normally...but it was a little early to start a Saturday. Daddy took Sam to his school because he had an all day picnic for ROTC. Yes, that's right, Sam is in ROTC. The best part is that he really seems to like it! Then when Daddy got back home, he and Mama left to go to the Indy Moto GP at the track where they have the Indy 500. They went there to work! We forgave them though since the work was volunteering for KPR. The job was selling souvenir programs. A portion of the sales was to be donated to KPR and Mama keeps saying that they kicked butt! They sold so many programs that they had a hard time keeping them stocked!

They were a little too busy to take many pictures, but they did get a few. This is from their walk into the track. Mama said they probably walked a couple of miles from the parking lot to where the program stand was.

The whole oval track wasn't used, but they had the grand prix track twisting around inside the main oval.

These guys had a lot of flags flying from their cooler...

Saturday was qualification day and after the qualifications were run one of the riders, James Toseland, and his band played for the crowd. The stage was right behind Mama's program stand so they got to enjoy the music. See the kid on the stage? He somehow got up on stage and was playing air guitar while the band was playing!

Mama said Daddy was rocking the orange smock! She manned the stand while Daddy and some other volunteers wandered around the crowd. They didn't go too far because they couldn't carry very many programs at once. Since it's the Centennial celebration of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, there was a special section of the program sharing the history of the track, so it was extra thick and heavy! At one point during the day, Mama said a guy with a big camera that said "SPEED" on it walked right up to the stand and filmed her selling programs to some people. Later that evening she saw that SPEED channel had something on about the Moto GP and we saw her on TV!!! Our Mama is a TV star now!!! Ok, so she was only on for like a second, but it was still exciting!

Now for the really insane part of the weekend. Saturday night Mama and Daddy got home (Grandma and Grandpa had picked up Sam from his picnic so he was already home) and started relaxing. Then Hank's mama came over and dropped off 2 more pugs! WTF??? Mama said they're just staying here until Saturday and then they're going to travel all the way to Seattle. See, there aren't enough foster homes here and not enough adopting homes. But Seattle's pug rescue has no pugs and they saw that we are overloaded, so they offered to help some of them find homes.

Anyway, their names are Patience and Ming. Patience is almost as big as Pippin. Actually, she might be a bit rounder even though she's not as tall. Ming is a bit chunky too, but she's smaller than Neecy! And they are very light colored, they look almost white compared to us!

I'm not sure Gus really knows what's going on. He's just happy as usual...

Ming has a tongue that sticks out a little bit even when her mouth is closed. Mama thinks she looks like our friend Sophie...

When they first showed up they had to go straight into the bath. Not only are they rather overweight, but they also had fleas! So they got an immediate flea bath before we could even meet them! Good thing Mama has flea shampoo!

They are really sweet girls. They had no problem fitting in with the Posse. They even had no problem climbing into bed with us (after Mama and Daddy got rid of those fleas of course)! But Mama learned the hard way that 7 is enough pugs! She woke up very cramped on the edge of the big bed because all of us wanted to snuggle with her! Serves her right!

Notice Gus making a Popeye face in this picture...it's in honor of Stubby taking Popeye's chicken to our dear friend Pearl who had emergency surgery last week...They're going to make someone in Seattle very happy!

Neecy looks a little sad because she's worried she's being replaced as head Munchkin. Mama promised she's her only Munchkin :-)

Well, that's enough craziness for now. Mama found out she has to have the 2 foster girls to Annie's house by 6 in the morning on Saturday and then we have our meetup at 10:30. I think we're probably going to be napping Saturday afternoon!

Far from wordless Wednesday

Hey everyone! Big Ern here. I want to share our busy weekend with you and the pictures from Eli's Gotcha Day celebration, but first I need to share something very important. Our dear friend Pearl from Oklahoma was rushed to the vet this morning by her mother and had to have emergency surgery to remove stones from her bladder! The vet said that if her momma had not been so smart to take her to the vet, she might have died! So please go give her some warm fuzzy pug wishes. Go ahead, we'll wait... In happier news, our buddy Walter from Minnesota who you might remember got into a fight with an SUV last month, got out and about with his mama today. They went for a stroll and stopped at a cafe to watch the world go by. We are so happy that he is doing so well. His rehab is going quite well. Go check out the videos of him in the water tank and on his balancing ball.

And in other pug news, our pal Harry from Alabama is now famous! He's going to be in the SEPRA calendar and this picture of him was featured on this website...

Ok, now for the celebration pictures. First I have to say that our Mama can really be an idiot. We went to the park in the afternoon and she forgot to put the memory card in the camera, so we don't have any pictures of us barking at those 2 big dogs who were chasing squirrels. Nor do we have any pictures of our chaotic trip to Three Dog Bakery. The lady working there gave us some complimentary Gotcha Day cookies and then we picked out some yummy treats to take home.

In case you've forgotten what I look like (since Mama hasn't posted anything in a while), here is my handsome face...

Eli's Gotcha Day

Hi everyone! Pug Mama here. I've been really bad about pug birthdays, but this Saturday is a day that cannot be missed! It's Eli's Gotcha Day! Sidney, Jasmine, and Pippin were all breeder pugs that we got as puppies. When Sid died last year we found Kentuckiana Pug Rescue and fell in love with little Eli. He was rescued from a backyard breeder and he was sooooooo skinny. He also had worms which is part of the reason he was so skinny. And he has that pug eye pigmentation problem. Because of it his eye sight is not the best, but he has the biggest heart!
Here he is when we first brought him home...he was so skinny that his head looked so big!!!
Such a sweet little face... Eli was so skinny and Pippin was so....fluffy...
He is a great head-tilter. One of his nicknames is "Bobble-head". These pictures kind of make me sad because he was so skinny and so desperate for love and attention. He is such a wonderful little pug and is so healthy now!
He has such a big fluffy tail too. And the hair right between his eyes (just above the nose fold) forms a little mohawk :-)
He didn't waste any time getting acquainted with our backyard... This is one of my favorite pictures of Eli...his little runway model pose...Zoolander maybe?
Pippin seemed to like having a little buddy from the beginning...he was a little buddy for a long time until Sid died...Now he's the PugFather and Eli is his little sidekick ;-)

Now, a year later, Eli has won the KPR kissing contest 3 times and he came in second place once!

Friday Frolicking

Hey everyone! Big Ern here. It has been so hot here in the Midwest that we haven't been doing too much. Well, that and the parents are busy working and our boy, Sam just started high school this past Tuesday! So when the Pug Mama came home today, she went outside with us and took some pictures. We are such good looking pugs, if I say so myself! Mama was noticing how good Pippin is looking. She said he has lost a lot of weight in the past year...

Eli quickly surveyed the yard for anything new...

He's not known as the PugFather for nothing...he is the boss...
